Thought for the Day 12/9/2005

Psalms 34:9-10 Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The young lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Why?

Why doesn't God bless me with that new car?

Why doesn't God let me win that sweepstakes?

Why doesn't God give me that new high-paying job?

Young lions are used in Psalm 34. Why? Young lions are very impatient and careless in their hunting. Because of their inexperience, young lions will often startle their prey and thus lose their opportunity for nourishment. The older, more experienced lions choose their prey wisely and patiently wait for the right opportunity to attack. The older lions adequately provide for the needs of their young.

The psalmist uses this illustration to show that God will provide for all of the needs of his children if we take the time to ask of him and wait on him. Verse 10 tells us that those that seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. God will provide his children with the desire's of their heart with the premise that it is a "good" thing.

Praise God today because he doesn't provide our every "want" but yet provides to us the things that are deemed best for us at the current time in our lives - what we really need.

"No really good thing shall be denied to those whose first and main end in life is to seek the Lord. Men may call them fools, but the Lord will prove them wise." -- C.H.. Spurgeon

Today, be patient. God knows your needs. He knows what's best for your life.
