Thought for the Day 7/30/2010

Get rich quick! Count your blessings!

Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?
It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich.
James 2:5, Proverbs 10:22

Thought for the Day 7/29/2010

You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.-Abraham Lincoln

Instead, speaking the truth in love, ….. in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
Ephesians 4:15

Thought for the Day 7/28/2010

There is no such thing in anyone's life as an unimportant day.
-Alexander Woollcott

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.
Colossians 3:23

Thought for the Day 7/27/2010

"You cannot hurt your eyesight by looking on the bright side."

The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

Thought for the Day 7/26/2010

There are only two options regarding commitment.

You're either IN or you're OUT.
There is no such thing as life in-between.
Pat Riley

No one can serve two masters;
for either he will hate the one and love the other,
or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and greed.
Matthew 6:24

Thoughtfor the Day 7/23/2010

It isn't the mountain ahead that wears you out- -it's the grain of sand in your shoe.
Robert Service

But encourage one another day after day,
as long as it is still called "Today"….
Hebrews 3:13

Thought for the Day 7/22/2010

If you have one eye on yesterday, and one eye on tomorrow,

you’re going to be cockeyed today.

Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city,
spend a year there, carry on business and make money."
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life?
You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Instead, you ought to say,
"If it is the Lord's will,
we will live and do this or that."
James 4:13-15

Thought for the Day 7/21/2010

Whenever you see darkness,
there is extraordinary opportunity for the light to burn brighter.

"You are the light of the world.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16

Thought for the Day 7/20/2010

Don't blame others for your failure to be fully accountable for your own life. If others are to blame then you have given them control.
- Bob Perks

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?
Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 3:1, 5:1

Thought for the Day 7/19/2010

Life leaps like a geyser for those willing to drill through the rock of inertia.
- Alexis Carrel

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does.
James 1:23-25

Thought for the Day 7/17/2010

Living in the past is a dull and lonely business;

looking back strains the neck muscles,
causes you to bump into people not going your way.
Edna Ferber (1885-1968)

On that day, let him who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house,
not come down to take them away;
and likewise let him who is in the field not turn back.
Remember Lot's wife.
Whoever seeks to gain his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life will preserve it.
Luke 17:31-33

Thought for the Day 7/16/2010

"Time is free, but it's priceless.
You can't own it, but you can use it.
You can't keep it , but you can spend it.
Once you've lost it, you can never get it back."
Harvey Mackay

Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.

Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;

And let him return to the LORD,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

Isaiah 55:6-7

Thought for the Day 7/15/2010

Man can live for about forty days without food,
and about three days without water,
about eight minutes without air ...
but only for one second without hope.

"For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off,
When God requires his life?”
“Be strong and let your heart take courage,
All you who hope in the LORD.”
Job 27:8, Psalm 31:24

Thought for the Day 7/14/2010

When You are Down to Nothing,

God's up to Something.

Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God,
for I shall again praise Him
For the help of His presence.
O my God, my soul is in despair within me;
Therefore I remember You.
Psalm 42:5-6

ABILITY is what you're capable of doing.
MOTIVATION determines what you do.
ATTITUDE determines how well you do it.
Lou Holtz

Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh,
arm yourselves also with the same attitude, ….
that he no longer should live the rest of his time
….for the lusts of men,
but for the will of God.
1 Peter 4:1-2

But listening is an art.
Frank Tyger

Let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance -
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge…

Thought for the Day 7/7/2010

"Time has a way of getting away from us,

because we never have a grip on it during the day..."
Doug Firebaugh

To everything there is a season,
           a time for every purpose under heaven:
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep:
      for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Ecclesiastes 3:1

The only people to get even with are those who have helped you.

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves….
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.

Thought for the Day 7/5/2010

It Takes Courage

It takes strength to be firm,
It takes courage to be gentle.

It takes strength to conquer,
It takes courage to surrender.

It takes strength to be certain,
It takes courage to have doubt.

It takes strength to fit in,
It takes courage to stand out.

It takes strength to feel a friend's pain,
It takes courage to feel your own pain.

It takes strength to endure abuse,
It takes courage to stop it.

It takes strength to stand alone,
It takes courage to lean on another.

It takes strength to love,
It takes courage to be loved.

It takes strength to survive,
It takes courage to live.

Wait for the LORD;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the LORD.

Thought for the Day 7/4/2010

Declaration of De-pendence

The Declaration of Independence was to set us free –
But is that the true and right freedom set for me?
The God of all indeed makes it right to separate
From the bonds of man’s rule and terrible fate.

We must realize that it is on God we must depend,
And follow our only King – Jesus Christ – who God did send.
Do we have the right to rebel against those who rule?
No! God commands us to submit, even when they’re cruel.

The freedom that we have been so freely given
By God who has released from slavery to sin;
Has us to live in respect for only God’s way.
To learn to totally depend, not on man, we pray,
But on God, Jesus our King, and brothers and sisters here.
In this way, we can walk depending on God’s love, and not fear.
Give thanks for the freedom that only our God can give,
And declare your dependence on HIM that you may live.
Based on Josh Hefner’s exhortation July 4, 2010

My salvation and my honor depend on God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Psalm 62:7

Thought for the Day 7/2/2010

It's the things that pushed you the most

that helped you the most.
Jim Loehr

Although [Jesus] was a Son,
He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.
And having been made perfect,
He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation.
Hebrews 5:8-9

you'll stay there.
