Thought for the Day 12/31/2014

I said to the man who stood at the gate of year:
"Give me a light that I may tread
          safely into the unknown."

And he replied, "Go into the darkness, and
put your hand into the hand of God:
That shall be to you better than light
and safer than a known way!"
Minnie Louise Haskins
He who trusts in the Lord

Thought for the Day 12/30/2014

I am the New Year.
I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living.
I am  your opportunity to practice what you have
learned about life during the last twelve months.

All that you sought and didn't find is hidden in me,
waiting for you to search it but with more determination.
All the good that you tried for and didn't achieve,
is mine to grant when you have fewer conflicting desires.

All that you dreamed but didn't dare do,
All that you hoped and did not will,
All the faith that you claimed, but did not have -

these slumber lightly, waiting to be awakened by
the touch of a strong purpose.
I am your opportunity to renew your allegiance to HIM
who said, "Behold, I make all things new."
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
-Psalms 51:10

Thought for the Day 12/29/2014

Do not ask the Lord to guide your footsteps,
if you are not willing to move your feet.

Blessed are the people that know the joyful sound:
they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance.
Psalm 89:15

Thought for the Day 12/25/2014

One starlit night
     One couple in distress
          One shabby stable
               Only one place to rest

One group of shepherds
     One night long ago
          One angel's message
               Only one place to go

One wiseman's journey
     One king did they seek
          One Son of David
               Only one child so meek

One reason for coming
     One goal on earth's sod
          One death that redeems
               Only one way to God.
Myra Dye

"Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host
appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
'Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.'"
                       Luke 2:13-14 (NIV)

Thought for the Day 12/24/2014

Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind.
To cherish peace and good will,
         to be plenteous in mercy,
is to have the real spirit of Christmas.
-Calvin Coolidge

Great peace have those who love your law;
      nothing can make them stumble.
