Thought for the Day 12/30/2022

Friday Tale - Think about your Thoughts   T hink about what you think, for it provides a mirror to the world of your heart and soul.   If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don’t. If you like to win, but think you can’t, It’s almost certain you won’t.   If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost, For out of this world we find Success begins with a person’s will, It’s all in our state of mind.   If you think you’re outclassed, you are. You’ve got to think high to rise. You’ve got to be sure of yourself before You can ever win a prize.   Cause life’s battles don’t always go To the stronger or faster man, But sooner or later, the person who wins Is the person WHO THINKS HE CAN . ~ Walter D. Wintle   A s a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Let my thoughts be pleasing to Him; as for me, I shall be glad in the LORD. ~ Proverbs 23:7; Psalm 104:34

Friday Tale - Christmas:             On December 25th, the birth of Jesus Christ will once again be celebrated around the world. The gospels mention no actual birthdate—or even season of the year—so the precise date remains a mystery. For many scholars, though, the presence of shepherds and sheep at the familiar manger scene suggest that he was born in the fall of the year, and not the winter.           The exact date is unknown, but by the 4th century, December 25th was the accepted date throughout Europe. Scholars believe early Christians chose the date to coincide with pagan festivals celebrating the winter solstice.           Throughout the Roman Empire, the solstice was called "the birthday of the unconquered Sun," and publi...

Friday Tale - Success???   O ver the years , I have read thousands of books and articles on the subjects of success and achievement. It seems that the reasons for these accomplishments have been discussed and written about for more than two thousand years, in every conceivable way. One quality that most philosophers, teachers and experts agree on is the importance of self-discipline. As Al Tomsik summarized it years ago, "Success is tons of discipline."       Some years ago, I attended a conference in Washington. It was the lunch break and I was eating at a nearby food fair. The area was crowded and I sat down at the last open table by myself, even though it was a table for four.       A few minutes later, an older gentleman and a younger woman who was his assistant came along carrying trays of food, obviously looking for a place to sit.       With plenty of room at my table, I immediately aro...

Friday Tale - It's Wonderful! T he 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she has poor eyesight, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window.   "I love it! It's sounds wonderful!" she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. "Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room just wait."   "That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my ro...

Friday Tale - Grass to Mow H abitat for Humanity builds homes for people who are needy. One of the volunteers for Habitat tells the following story of a family who had just moved into their new home. “The family is so excited. I can see why. Compared to the house they used to live in, this must seem like a mansion. Anyhow, the husband wanted to know if it would be alright if he mowed the lawn. There was only a little patch of grass … and it really didn’t need cutting. Rather than say no, he was advised not to cut it too short because the hot dry weather might kill what little they had. When asked why he was so eager to mow the grass, he said, ‘This is the first time I ever had any grass to mow.’ Isn’t if funny that some of us complain about yard work while others are excited about having grass to mow. Some of us complain about unloading the dishwasher while others are grateful for indoor plumbing. Some of us complain about the heat while othe...
