Friday Tale - Spell Checker M y  s pelling is sometimes atrocious. I used to be an excellent speller. What happened? Spell checker. As I type on the computer now, if I misspell a word, the spell-checking feature automatically puts a red line under the misspelled word. I simply right-click on the word and several options appear for the correct spelling. It's a great feature, but it has made me a bad speller. I no longer need to think or remember how to properly spell words. The spell checker does that for me. I understand why life can't have a spell checker. It makes us weak and dependent on the machine instead of the mind. The easier life gets, often the weaker we get. Just look at what cars, elevators, escalators, moving sidewalks, power windows, automatic doors, dishwashers, washing machines, television, video games and yes, computers have done for the majority of our bodies. We are rounder and softer than ever and as a result, often quit...

Friday Tale ~ I am Thankful * for the spouse who says it's hot dogs tonight because she/he is home with me, not with someone else.  * For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because that means she is at home, not on the streets. * For the taxes that I pay, because it means that I am employed. * For the mess to clean after a party, because it means that I have been surrounded by friends. * For the clothes that fit a little too snug, for it means I have enough to eat. * For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine. * For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home. * For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom of speech. * For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation. * For my huge heating bill, because it ...

Thought for the Day 6/13/1973 ~ Friday Tale

Friday Tale ~ Tears in Sports It  happened in the very first inning of the Southwest Region championship. Two boys who when they woke up this morning only cared about one thing… get to Williamsport. Suddenly everything changed, because in real life things happen just like that … things change in a heartbeat.     Kaiden Shelton is the big man on the powerful Pearland team, their big picture, their big hitter. Isiah Jarvis is the shortstop on the scrappy Oklahoma team that had through incredible perseverance made it to the championship game . One team has already been to Williamsport, the other has never been.     The Pearland team scored 3 runs in the top of the first, but Oklahoma came right back at them in the bottom of the inning , they scored 2 runs and had a big rally going on, there was noise everywhere, coaches were yelling for the pitcher Shelton and the batter Jarvis to ”Battle” “win the battle.”     Then it...
