Thought for the Day 3/15/2024
Friday Tale - Cooperation
Cooperation, like love and friendship, is something you
get by giving.
There
are many travelers on the road that leads to happiness. You will need their
cooperation, and they will need yours.
And there will be other generations after ours. Their lot in life will depend largely on the inheritance we leave to them. We must become bridge-builders, not only for the present generation but for generations yet unborn.
An old man, travelling a lonely
highway,
Came at the evening, cold and
gray,
To a chasm deep and wide.
The old man crossed in the
twilight dim,
For the sullen stream had no
fears for him.
But he turned when he reached
the other side,
And built a bridge to span the
tide.
"Old man," cried a
fellow pilgrim near,
"You are wasting your
strength with building here.
Your journey will end with the
ending day,
And you never again will pass
this way.
"You have crossed the
chasm deep and wide.
Why build you a bridge at
eventide?"
And the builder raised his old
grey head:
"Good friend, on the path
I have come," he said,
"There followeth after me
today
A youth whose feet must pass
this way.
"This stream which has
been as naught to me,
To that fair-haired boy may a
pitfall be.
He, too, must cross in the
twilight dim.
Good friend, I am building this
bridge for him."
~ Will Allen Dromgoole
Go through, go through the gates, clear the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway, remove the stones. Lift up a standard over the
peoples. Behold the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth, "Say to
the daughter of Zion, 'Lo, your salvation comes; behold His reward is with him,
and His recompense before him.' "
~ Isaiah 62:10-11
